Art Deco Engagement Ring Designed in Cardiff
This bespoke Art Deco engagement ring was designed and handcrafted in our Cardiff workshop for Helen. From the outset, she wanted a statement ring centred around a teal sapphire — bold in colour yet structured in design.
At the heart of the ring sits a perfectly proportioned cushion-cut teal sapphire, selected for its rich depth and subtle shift between blue and green in changing light. Surrounding the centre stone, we created a geometric halo using baguette and round diamonds reclaimed from jewellery she no longer wore, transforming sentimental pieces into a cohesive Art Deco composition.
The halo is set within a structured collet featuring an Art Deco–inspired cut-out beneath the sapphire. This architectural opening allows additional light to pass underneath the stone while reinforcing the stepped symmetry associated with 1920s design.
The band transitions thoughtfully in profile — beginning as a classic D-shape at the base for comfort and gradually tapering into a soft knife-edge as it approaches the setting. This subtle change in form draws focus toward the centre stone while maintaining clean geometric definition.
The result is a ring that feels expressive and contemporary, yet grounded in Art Deco precision.

From Sketch to CAD: Designing a Bespoke Engagement Ring in Cardiff
Every bespoke engagement ring we design begins with sketches developed during the consultation, followed by precision CAD modelling. For Helen’s ring, this stage allowed us to refine the proportions of the cushion-cut sapphire, balance the reclaimed baguette and round diamonds within the halo, and perfect the geometric collet structure.
Through CAD, we carefully developed:
- The symmetry of the Art Deco halo
- The cut-out beneath the sapphire to enhance light flow
- The transition from D-shaped band to soft knife-edge
- The overall taper and structural balance
This process ensures architectural accuracy before the ring is handcrafted in our Cardiff workshop.
